Thousand word Thursday – Sabrina’s Sweet 16 Cake

My Thousand word Thursday posts normally don’t contain any commentary, but this cake, which took me three days to make, is definitely worthy of such narrative…

Sabrina’s Sweet 16 Cake – inspired from a photo on Pinterest – May 31, 2013

Here’s how I did it:

First layer – homemade yellow cake, buttercream icing dam, and filled with crushed fresh strawberries…

I covered the berries with a layer of pastry cream ..

I covered the pastry cream with the second layer of cake, and crumb coated the whole thing -

I made two more layers the exact same way. I then covered each cake in rolled fondant. Sabrina used edible paint to mimic the ocean waves on the sides of the cake, and after I stacked them, I used crushed graham crackers as sand and used real sea shells as decoration.

Needless to say, she was thrilled :)
